ARK offers caregiver classes

  • Thursday, April 10, 2014

The ARK, Alzheimer’s Family Support Services, will offer two caregiving classes at Roper Hospital Berkeley from April 16 to May 21.

“Powerful Tools for Caregivers” is a free educational series designed to provide Alzheimer’s and dementia caregivers with the tools to take care of themselves. Class size is limited.

This program helps family caregivers reduce stress, improve self-confidence, communicate feelings better, balance their lives, increase their ability to make tough decisions, and locate helpful resources.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers consists of six sessions held once a week. Two experienced and certified class leaders conduct the series which includes interactive lessons, discussions and brainstorming sessions. Participants will take the “tools” they choose and put them into action for life.

Participants will receive The Caregiver Helpbook. A donation of $30 to cover the cost of the book is appreciated but not required.

Classes will be offered free as part of a grant from Wheat Ridge Ministries.

Two separate classes will be held on Wednesdays from April 16 to May 21. One class will be held from 1 - 3:30 p.m. and the second class from 5 – 7:30 p.m. Please designate which class you would like to attend when registering.

Class size is limited to 12 and participants must register by Friday, April 11 in order to attend. Classes will be held at:

Roper Hospital Berkeley, 730 Stony Landing Road in Moncks Corner.
