Cody Smith tossed a shutout for the Gators. ROB GANTT/GAZETTE

Cody Smith tossed a shutout and the Goose Creek Gators blanked region rival Cane Bay in baseball on Tuesday at GCHS. Tyler Rio's solo blast to center in the bottom of the fourth inning accounted for the lone run of the game and was enough support for Smith. Smith (2-2) struck out five batters and scattered three hits against Cobras. Gators catcher Christian Sillanpa was the only player for either team with two hits. Cane Bay had a runner cut down at the plate in the top of the sixth inning and then went in order in the seventh inning. The Region 7-AAAA series was set to continue Wednesday night at Cane Bay and Friday.
