At times the line stretched out the door of the municipal court that served as the polling place on Tuesday, April 8 for the Goose Creek mayoral and city council election.
The steady drizzle made several voters walk up under umbrellas and hats.
Goose Creek Mayor Michael Heitzler greeted voters often while standing in the rain as his opponent Councilman Jerry Tekac and the five council candidates stood under a breezeway to shake voters hands and introduce themselves.
The council candidates are incumbents Kimo Esarey and Mark Phillips along with Debra Green-Fletcher, Victoria Morrell and Gerald Stinson. There are three seats open for city council. The three candidates with the most votes should be elected, although a runoff is possible for the third and fourth place candidates.
Heitzler, Esarey, Phillips and Green-Fletcher wore matching green polo t-shirts. They campaigned together and are running as “team green.”
Polls are open from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. The municipal court is located near city hall and the police department at the Marguerite H. Brown Municipal Center, 519 N. Goose Creek Blvd., Goose Creek.
