The Stratford boys soccer team has a winning streak going.
The Knights defeated James Island 4-1 in a non-region match on Friday for their fourth victory in a row.
The Knights (5-4, 1-0 region) got goals from Jared Polikoff, Tyler Tekac, Tristen Ray and Dylan West. They are to host Cane Bay on Tuesday before traveling to Hanahan on Wednesday and No. 1 Wando on Friday.
Two nights earlier, the Stratford boys knocked off Fort Dorchester 3-2 on penalty kicks.
Yamir Watts had both goals in regulation for the Knights. The score was tied heading into a shootout and Stratford outscored Fort Dorchester 5-3 in the shootout.
BASEBALL: The Goose Creek Gators knocked off Academic Magnet 5-1 on March 27, improving to 4-3.
Christian Sillanpa had three hits and an RBI to lead the Gators, who were slated to begin a region series with West Ashley on Monday. Tyler Rio allowed six hits and one earned run over four innings to pick up the pitching victory. He fanned six batters.
Bryce Jonason threw the final three innings to record a save. He didn't allow a hit and struck out three batters.
The Gators scored all the runs they needed in the first two innings, plating a pair in each at-bat to lead 4-1.
The Hanahan Hawks were hammered by visiting Berkeley in a Region 8-AAA series on Friday.
The Stags pounded out 16 hits and used three big innings to break it open. Berkeley scored four in the first, five in the fourth and four more in the seventh.
Christian Leakey had three hits and two RBIs for the Hawks, including a home run. Hunter Sutton also had a home run for Hanahan.
Zach Gonzales struck out nine over five-plus innings to earn the victory for Berkeley. He gave up five hits and two earned runs.
Kyle Garrick had four hits and two home runs for the Stags. Connor Teague and Josh Simmons also blasted homers for Berkeley.
The Stratford Knights were swept by Wando last week, falling 12-7, 4-0 and 5-3 in three competitive games with the Warriors.
They host Bishop England on Friday, April 4 before beginning a crucial three-game series with West Ashley on April 7.
TENNIS: The Stratford Knights dropped a pair of matches last week. The Knights fell 6-0 against Wando on Thursday after a close, 4-3 loss to James Island a day earlier.
TRACK AND FIELD: In a track and field meet at Cane Bay High School on March 26, the Lady Cobras were first among six teams, while the Cobras placed second.
Cane Bay's girls had 187 points, followed by Wade Hampton (124), Military Magnet (60), Berkeley (51), Garrett (26) and Baptist Hill (18).
Event winners for the Lady Cobras were Dakota Cook (1600m, 800m), Asi O'Neill (3200m), Sydney Hickert (PV), Makayla Dudley (TJ) and Heaven Singleton (D). The Cane Bay girls' 3200-meter relay team also placed first.
In the boys meet, Berkeley had 221 points, followed by Cane Bay (144), Wade Hampton (86.5), Garrett (23.5), Baptist Hill (9) and Military Magnet (5).
Event winners for the Cobras were Rashad Andrews (110 H), Kevin Bunch (1,600m), Jordon West (400 H), JJ Jenkins (200m) and Romante Frasier (LJ).
