Gazette shines at SCPA awards

The Gazette and its sister newspapers, The Journal Scene in Summerville and The Independent in Moncks Corner, racked up an impressive 26 writing, design and photography awards at the 2013 South Carolina Press Association awards banquet.

The event was held Saturday in Columbia.

Gazette sports writer Rob Gantt won two first place awards and three total honors, including for Sports Beat Reporting in Goose Creek, and Sports Page Design in Goose Creek.

Editor Frank Johnson captured a second place finish for News Headline Writing, and a third place in the Short Story category, for The Gazette.

Among staff writer Dan Brown’s seven honors was a first place in Humor Column Writing for The Gazette.

The Gazette is part of Summerville Communications, which includes The Independent and The Journal Scene.
