The Goose Creek High School basketball teams reached the end of the road for the 2013-14 season last week.

Both the Lady Gators and Gators were ousted from the Class AAAA playoffs in the third round on Feb. 25.

Goose Creek’s girls were tripped up at home by Summerville, 55-52, in overtime, while the boys traveled to Sumter and lost 45-37.

Each squad finished 24-3.

It was the final moments in Goose Creek uniforms for a total of 11 seniors between the two teams, including three starters apiece. Among the seniors for the Lady Gators were forward Shakeia Joy (9.1 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 3.1 spg), guard Alex Ludwig (8.1 ppg, 2.7 spg) and center Semoine Frasier (8.6 ppg, 5.3 rpg).

The other seniors were guard Alishya Neal-Turner and center Santanna Holmes.

For next season, they will return two starters in freshman guard Mariah Linney (10.8 ppg, 4.7 apg, 4.1 spg) and freshman forward Ericka Broughton (9.2 ppg, 6.9 reb, 2.1 bpg). Sophomore guard Ryan Bishop added 5.8 points and 1.5 steals per game. Sophomore guard Zeleria Simpson and sophomore post player Shakayia Wilson got substantial minutes this season and will be counted on more next winter.

Among the seniors for the Goose Creek boys were guards Dantez Bennamon (17 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.6 rpg) and Chris Singleton (9.3 ppg, 2.1 apg). Bennamon was recently named to the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association’s Class AAAA all-state team.
