Bishop England senior Mary Harriet Moore was honored as second-team MaxPreps.com Volleyball Small Schools All-American prior to the Lady Bishops' home playoff basketball game Tuesday.
Moore, also a basketball standout, was presented her award by Bishop England athletic director and girls basketball coach Paul Runey at midcourt before tipoff.
As a senior co-captain, Moore led Lady Bishops volleyball to 30 wins on way to its 13th straight Class 2A state championship. A 6-foot-1 middle blocker, she turned in 345 kills, 140 blocks and 44 aces off serve. She was selected as Class AA Player of the Year by the S.C. Coaches Association for Women's Sports, All-State by the High School Sports Report and won MVP honors while leading her team to a win in the North-South All-Star game.
“She's a very smart player with really good court awareness,” Bishop England volleyball coach Cindy Baggot said. “It's unbelievable the way she sees things out there. She can mix it up with a balance of power and a soft touch. She's really stepped up as a leader for us and pretty much controls the game.”
After receiving her award, Moore helped the Lady Bishops basketball team advance to the Lower State title game for the third consecutive year with 16 points, 17 rebounds and three blocks in a lopsided win.
