  • Thursday, February 20, 2014

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad was called to a house in The Hamlets to investigate a soda bottle containing a suspicious liquid.

At about 6:45 a.m. on Feb. 14, Goose Creek Police Department officers responded to a Welchman Avenue residence in regard to a suspicious plastic soda bottle found outside a double-door garage, according to a GCPD incident report.

The bottle was found with no lid. The bottle was surrounded by green liquid resembling antifreeze.

The area was cordoned off by police tape.

The bottle appeared over pressurized.

The neighbors across the street told police they had not seen anything out of the ordinary during the night.

Another neighbor told police she saw a suspicious man wearing black shorts and a burgundy hoodie standing at a nearby address holding a black briefcase in his hand.

At 8:07 a.m. the Charleston County Bomb Squad arrived to assess the device. A short time later bomb squad technicians neutralized the device and gave the all-clear, according to the report.

The device was taken in as evidence. GCPD officers checked surrounding houses. No other suspicious devices were found.
