Thousands remain without power as crews work through the night

  • Wednesday, February 12, 2014

Line crews are continuing to respond to power outages throughout Berkeley County Wednesday night.

According to the Berkeley Electric Cooperative, over 29,000 residents primarily in Berkeley County remain without power at 10:30 p.m. According to SCE&G, an additional 3,700 of its Berkeley customers are also without power. Santee Cooper reported 2,800 customers without power.

Over 18,000 BEC members have had their power restored today after the co-op lost more than half its 85,000-member system to the ice storm.

Crews will work through the night to restore outages and will be joined by additional crews tomorrow. However, Berkeley Electric is urging members to be prepared for extended outages and to take the appropriate precautions.

To report an outage, please call our automated outage reporting system at 1-888-253-4232. Members can also stay updated by following us on Facebook and keep track of the status of repairs through our live outage viewer map located on our homepage at www.bec.coop.

SCE&G customers may call 1-888-333-4465.

Berkeley County has opened two Emergency Shelters: Cane Bay Middle School and Berkeley Middle School.
