Car battery shoplifters arrested

A Ridgeville man and a North Charleston man were arrested after stealing car batteries and fleeing from the Goose Creek Wal-Mart on Jan. 31 at about 3:50 p.m.

A police officer found the suspects and their escape vehicle at a St. James Avenue gas station, according to a Goose Creek Police Department incident report.

The store’s loss prevention officer witnessed the suspects take three Maxx 34 car batteries, one 35-3 car battery, one Maxx 24 car battery and one set of vehicle floor mats and exit the store without paying, according to the report.

The suspects were arrested and charged with shoplifting. They were also placed on trespass notice at the store. They were taken to the detention center and their vehicles was towed.

One of the suspects had at least two prior convictions of property crimes. The stolen items have a total value of $520.
