The AARP Foundation will have a free tax preparation site at the Mount Pleasant library at the corner of Mathis Ferry Road and Anna Knapp Blvd. serving mainly low to medium income taxpayers with special emphasis on the elderly. Residents of all ages are welcome and AARP membership is not required. The Mount Pleasant site will operate on Monday and Friday afternoons from 1 - 5 p.m. and is staffed by volunteers certified by the IRS. Federal and state tax returns are filed electronically and IRS direct deposited refunds can generally be available within two weeks. The Mount Pleasant site will begin preparing returns on Monday, Feb. 4 and run through Monday, April 8.
Taxpayers should bring a copy of their prior year tax return, photo identification, social security card or social security statement and all information relating to their 2013 tax return. Tax returns are prepared on a first come, first served basis and the taxpayer should arrive at the Mount Pleasant library site at least on hour prior to closing.
