Berkeley Electric in final stages of restoring power

  • Thursday, January 30, 2014

Berkeley Electric Cooperative employees are returning power to its customers after freezing rain and temperatures caused outages.

During the course of the recent winter storm approximately 12,000 customers were without power, making Berkeley the most heavily hit electric cooperative in the state, according to a BEC press release sent to the media on Thursday afternoon.

In-house crews, contract crews and crews from sister cooperatives have worked around the clock since Tuesday.

As of 3 p.m. Thursday, there are approximately 100 members still without power.

Restoration efforts will continue throughout the day until all members have service.

In the event of a downed power line, please stay away from the line and report it immediately to BEC.

To report an outage, please call our automated outage reporting system at 1-888-253-4232. Members can also stay updated by following BEC on Facebook and keep track of the status of repairs through our live outage viewer map located on our homepage at www.bec.coop.

Berkeley Electric Cooperative is the largest electric cooperative in South Carolina serving over 85,000 members in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties.
