Lowcountry students will stay at home at least one more day Thursday due to inclement weather forecasts.
Berkeley, Dorchester 2 and Charleston county schools made the announcements Wednesday afternoon.
All Berkeley County School District (BCSD) programs and offices will be closed due to icy conditions and road closures across the county.
“All district activities--including before- and after-school care and sports practices--are cancelled. Employees should not report to work unless otherwise instructed,” a statement on BCSD’s website read. “During times of inclement weather and with safety as our utmost priority, the district works very closely with partners including Berkeley County Emergency Preparedness to make decisions related to school operations and bussing.”
“We will continue to work with local county and emergency officials to assess roads and bridges to determine any potential closings or delays for Friday. We will keep you posted—through our website, the district’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BerkeleyCountySchoolDistrict, the media, and additional call-out messages—in the event of any schedule change for Friday.”
Due to recommendations by the Emergency Operations Center and the potential for icy roads and hazardous driving conditions – schools and offices will be closed Jan. 30, according to a statement released by CCSD on Wednesday. In addition, City of Goose Creek offices will close at 3 p.m. Wednesday and will reopen Thursday at 8 a.m. This closure includes City Hall and the Municipal Court.
The Casey Community Center and the Goose Creek Community Center will operate normal hours Wednesday and Thursday.
