Jalen Ward and Damian Hurta combined for 65 points to lift St. John’s Christian to a 77-56 win over Coastal Christian Friday in Moncks Corner.
Hurta scored 25 of his 30 points in the second half, while St. John’s turned a one-point advantage into a lopsided win. Coastal (4-6, 1-4) trimmed the lead down to 11 points in the fourth quarter but Hurta sealed the win with three defensive rebounds that St. John’s used to stretch its lead at the other end.
Ward led all scorers with 35 points for St. John’s. Seth White led Coastal with 24 points, while Raequan Gregg added 20.
Ward and White traded baskets throughout the first half. Ward dropped in 14 points, while White countered with 13 to keep Coastal trailing just 23-22 at halftime.
Gregg knocked down three threes in the third quarter, that Hurta matched with three of his own, as part of his 13-point third quarter. St. John’s opened a 17-point lead by the end of the third quarter and kept the advantage in double figure the rest of the night.
