Wando regained some momentum last week, picking up wins over Carolina Forest and Ridge View in back-to-back nights at West Ashley High School.

The Warriors (11-3) won a shootout over Carolina Forest Friday and returned to West Ashley Saturday for defensive battle with Ridge View. Wando set a new season-high, scoring 91 points Friday, and allowed just 37 Saturday, the second-fewest they've given up this season.

“It was good to see us bounce back from a couple losses the way we did,” Wando head coach David Eaton said. “We learned some lessons playing teams like St. John's and Linden (in the Roundball Classic) and it showed in the way we played the last two games.”

Wando 91, Carolina Forest 75

Wando forwards Taylor Majewksi and Jamez Rogers combined for 33 points in the second half to help Wando snap a two-game losing streak.

Majewski turned in 10 in the third quarter before Rogers caught fire with 17 in the fourth. Rogers finished with 28 to lead all scorers, Amp Moore paced Wando throughout the night with 19, and Majewski added 15.

“We made the extra passes and hit the open shots,” Eaton said. “Jamez got back to attacking and making shots. Taylor and Amp got back to playing their game. Andrew Glover, Matt Pegram, all our guys were playing confident.

Ryan Yurachek and Zavier Jones both scored 19 to lead Carolina Forest while Parker Helgerson added 16. Wando held just a one-point lead at halftime but outscored Carolina Forest 28-14 in the third quarter to take control.

“Our defense could have been better but they were hot and they earned most of their points,” Eaton said. “They wanted to play fast. It was high-possession, high-scoring game but we can score that way too.”

Wando 48, Ridge View 37

Wando dropped in three threes to outscore Ridge View 16-8 in the first quarter of what was otherwise a tight game.

Glover scored a game-high 11 points, Rogers added 10 and Moore eight. Khalil Hopkins led Ridge View with 11 points, and Justin Alewine added eight.

Wando won the final three quarters by a combined three points.

“We didn't shoot as well Saturday but give Ridge View credit, they did a great job of playing position defense and forcing us to work hard for open looks,” Eaton said. “They're quick but smaller so, defensively, we made sure to have a hand in their face every time they took a shot.

“I think we're back on track. The (Roundball) tournament was a great learning experience. Our guys are all competitors and they hate to lose. They were able to take what they did, learn from it, improve on some things and I think that's going to help us the rest of the way.” //
