The Marion Marauders Society of Mount Pleasant ended their second year of sponsorship of the Wreaths Across America program with a record number of wreaths being purchased. As of Monday, Nov. 25, the society has sponsored 111 wreaths which are to be placed on gravesites at National Cemeteries on Dec. 14. The society’s previous number sold was 65 in 2012. SGM (Ret) Cecil Evans, president of the society stated, “We are very grateful to the East Cooper community and others who stepped forward to purchase these wreaths in honor of our deceased veterans. Their placement on the gravesites will bring a delightful stroke of color to the cemetery’s appearance.”
The public is invited to attend the wreath placement ceremony at any National Cemetery in South Carolina on Saturday, Dec. 14 starting at noon. The Marauders will be present at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort for the ceremony held there.
Evans stated that their most generous supporter of the effort this year was the East Cooper Outboard Motor Club with a total of 34 wreaths purchased. “We are already planning on a bigger effort next year with hopes of doubling or tripling the final numbers,” Evans said. “Stay tuned.”
