‘Celebrate the Season’ returns this month

  • Friday, November 15, 2013

Santee Cooper’s Celebrate The Season continues to bring families and the community together during the holidays.

Thousands of dazzling lights, new animated light displays, a weekend wonderland play area and craft fair, and face time with Santa are just a few of the treats awaiting visitors to the 2013 Celebrate The Season Holiday Driving Tour and weekend Holiday Fairs beginning Nov. 29.

Presented in part by Berkeley Electric Cooperative, Celebrate The Season remains a community gift that spreads joy year round.

Continuing its tradition of giving, all proceeds again will be donated to charities serving Berkeley County.

Last year alone, Celebrate The Season donated $145,412.18 to local charities, thanks to generous support from all of the event’s sponsors.

In its third year, Celebrate The Season is bigger and more event-packed, with sponsors providing new light displays along the mile-plus route that begins at Santee Cooper headquarters and winds through the adjacent Old Santee Canal Park.

Also new this year is the Tinsel Trot 2-mile Fun Run, which takes place from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23 and gives participants a “sneaker preview” of the colorful light displays.

Celebrate The Season is open daily except for Dec. 24 and Dec. 25. Admission to the Holiday

Driving Tour is $5 per vehicle, and cars can make repeat loops through the display route for the price of one admission. On the weekends from Nov. 29 to Dec. 22, a Holiday Fair offers additional season’s greetings, with opportunities to purchase food and crafts, Stony Landing House tours, a carousel and Santa Claus.

In addition to it being a new holiday tradition, Celebrate The Season is a green event. Holiday displays are illuminated by energy-efficient LED bulbs, and the entire month-long festival will be powered by renewable Santee Cooper Green Power.

The entrance to Celebrate The Season is at Santee Cooper’s headquarters, 1 Riverwood Drive, Moncks Corner. Hours are 6-9p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 5-9:30 p.m. Fridays through Sundays.

Advanced tickets are available at Old Santee Canal Park. For more information on the Tinsel Trot, advance tickets, attractions and a complete list of sponsors, visit www.celebratetheseason.org.
