The Stratford High School cross country teams are among the group that hope to conquer the Sandhills this weekend in Columbia.
The Lady Knights and Knights both advanced through Lower State qualifying with third-place finishes in Saturday’s qualifier at the Old Santee Canal Park.
The top five teams in the Lower State meet moved on to the state meet at the Sandhills Research Center.
Stratford coach Shane Sutherland said the goal for both teams is to finish inside the top 10.
The Stratford girls team placed Bethany Reeves (19:30.66) in fifth place followed by teammate Alexandra Zimmer (19:35.92) in sixth place. Tiffany Hutson (20:46.25) was 11th.
The Lady Knights also counted times from Lauren Adams (21:26.34), Zaria Dennis (23:19.25), Sabrina Ashe (23:37.55) and Caitlin McDade (24:10.72).
Adams improved her PR by 45 seconds, helping to lift the Lady Knights into the state meet.
Austin Weaver (16:53.61) led the boys team in sixth place followed by Ryan Abdullah (17:01.86) in 10th place. Kyle Thomas (17:06.55) was 14th.
Morgan Woods (17:31.54), Ryan Adams (17:54.94), Jacob Brandt (18:06.28) and Brett Alford (18:06.55) also had counting times for the Knights.
