Knights hit speed bump on road

For the first time this season, the end result of a Stratford football game was less than a victory on Friday night.

The Knights traveled to South Florence for a battle of unbeatens and came back with a 26-14 defeat on their resume, their lone blemish in 10 tries this fall. Rainy conditions seemed to affect South Florence less.

South Florence quarterback Nick Jones had a hand in all four scores the Bruins (10-0), who scored 26 unanswered points after Taylor Morrison’s 60-yard fumble return for a score gave Stratford a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

Jones, who had 260 yards passing, brought South Florence within 7-6 on a 6-yard run then tossed touchdown passes of 17, 63 and 35 yards as the Bruins avenged a 31-14 loss in 2012 to Stratford.

Tabari Hines made two of the three scoring grabs for South Florence.

Jameak Jones made the game closer with 5:25 left, hauling in a 27-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jacob Park.

Park, a Georgia commitment, had a rare off night, finishing 11 of 35 for 132 yards.

The Knights carry a 9-1 record into Friday’s epic home clash with rival Goose Creek.

The Gators are 10-0 after beating West Ashley 49-21.
