One of the best-ever Goose Creek Gators football players was honored on Friday.
Last year’s Mr. Football, Tramel Terry, had his jersey No. 1 retired before Goose Creek’s game with Wando. Terry is the lone four-year starter in Coach Chuck Reedy’s 12 years at the helm. Reedy said Terry meant a lot to the program and tried to lead by example.
“He is one of the most highly-decorated players to come out of the Lowcountry,” Reedy said. “He was named all-American by USA Today and Under Armour.
“He was only the second Lowcountry player selected as South Carolina’s Mr. Football. He’s an excellent player, student, leader and quality young man.”
Terry is a redshirt freshman at the University of Georgia.
He helped lead the Gators to their lone state championship in 2011 and finished his career with 141 catches for 2,556 yards and 246 carries for 1,817 yards. He rushed for 33 touchdowns and hauled in 19 touchdown passes over his four years.
Terry capped his prep career in the Shrine Bowl after helping to power the Gators to a 13-0 record last season. He combined for 1,633 yards and averaged over 10.1 yards per touch.
