Cane Bay robotics team wins Golden Bolt
The Cane Bay High School robotics team took first place in the South Carolina Robotics Invitation and Workshops on Oct.12, earning the Golden Bolt.
The competition dates back to the first weekend in January. Teams were given six weeks to prepare for the Palmetto Regional Competition in Myrtle Beach. Out of the 65 teams in the field, CBHS earned the No. 2 seed.
After qualifying and quarterfinal matches, it was down to 21 teams at the SCRIW competition at Irmo High School.
The final six teams competed, and Cane Bay’s team came home with the gold.
Students were helped by visiting engineers from Boeing, Bosch, Alcoa, Santee-Cooper, Publix and ESI. CBHS principal Lee Westberry was in attendance and encourages everyone who hasn’t been to a robotics competition to attend one.
“If you’ve never been to (a robotics competition) it’s something you have to see,” said Westberry. “It’s very, very cool.”
