The 2013 Youth Honoree for the Mount Pleasant Jingle Bell Run is a 4-year-old little boy by the name of Blake Doossche. When Blake was 20 months old, he began waking up at night with severe leg pain and was demonstrating difficulty grasping crayons due to decreased range of motion in his fingers. Blake went to several doctor appointments and through many tests until he was diagnosed with Polyarticular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis in July of 2012 and began treatment. Today, Blake is a joyful 4-year-old who loves playing baseball and soccer, going to the beach and playing with his little brother.
The Arthritis Foundation always like to honor a youth honoree for all of the Jingle Bell Run’s, which is a nation-wide series of 5Ks that is aimed to fight arthritis. People are often surprised to learn that children can get arthritis too, and when people hear the word “arthritis” they think of it as an elderly person’s disease.
The third annual Mount Pleasant Jingle Bell Run/Walk will be held Saturday, Dec. 14 at Roper St. Francis Mt. Pleasant Hospital, 3500 Highway 17 N.
This 5K Timed Run/Walk begins at 9 a.m. The Rudolph Run begins at 10 a.m. The Dancer Dash begins at 10:15 a.m.
5K Awards by TrySports will be given to the Top three overall and each age group. Male and Female.
Awards will also go to the Top Fundraiser, Top Team, Largest Team and the Best Costume.
