Bryson to run for council
Small businessman and civic leader Ben Bryson has filed for Mount Pleasant Town Council. Bryson and his campaign have been building momentum with election day less than a month away, he said.
Bryson attends every council meeting and most committee meetings.
He said the issues he will focus on, if elected include:
• Aggressive business recruitment to ensure a more reliable and predictable revenue stream for the town so we don’t have to solely depend on residential growth
• Infrastructure maintenance and repair (water, stormwater, and streets)
• Work closely with the Charleston County School District and parents to always present a unified voice to address overcrowding and acceleration of new school construction
• Construction of a new town hall financed without burdening the taxpayers
• Securing funding for the completion of the Sweetgrass Parkway and widening of Highway 41
• Complete Phase II of the Shem Creek Park and build a second senior in North Mount Pleasant
• Maintain and adequately fund recreation.
A 1987 graduate of Furman University, Bryson owns a real estate company in Mount Pleasant.
“Having never held elected office, I am humbled and excited to receive such widespread support and encouragement to run,” said Bryson. “Being able to continue my public service to my neighbors in Mount Pleasant as a councilman would be a true honor and privilege. I believe Mount Pleasant is a very special and unique town, and I look forward to helping make it an even better place to live and work.”
Bryson is also a 2001 Graduate of Leadership Charleston - sponsored by the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce.
He serves on the Mount Pleasant Board of Zoning Appeals and the Charleston County Board of Assessment Appeals. Previously, he served on the boards of the Lowcountry Housing Trust, Creative Spark Center for the Arts, Charleston Trident Association of Realtors-MLS, committee member of the Mount Pleasant Workforce Housing Advisory Committee and is a member of East Cooper Baptist Church.
“We have to start planning 10 to 15 years out with intelligent economic growth plans that will also enhance the quality of life we enjoy today,” he said.
“As a parent, small business owner and a taxpayer, I will work tirelessly to make Mount Pleasant a better place for our children, our businesses and us. I have the time, experience and commitment to fulfill the responsibilities of town council; and I look forward to getting to work for our neighbors.”
