Hanahan’s win almost too easy

The Hanahan Hawks didn’t have to break too much of a sweat in running their record to 5-0.
In a way, that concerns their coach Charlie Patterson.
“I don’t think we played with a lot of intensity, on defense especially,” said Patterson, whose team hammered Wade Hampton 56-16 on Friday. “We let them have a few things in there that we shouldn’t have.
“We’ve got to play with some more emotion and intensity against better teams.”
Hanahan’s closest game is a 35-0 victory over Bishop England.
They hit the road to take on Orangeburg-Wilkinson this Friday. The Bruins are also unbeaten, coming off a 28-21 win over Richland Northeast.
The two teams have one common opponent so far. The Bruins edged Edisto 21-14 and the Hawks defeated Edisto 45-7 two games ago.
“We’re looking forward to it,” Patterson said. “It’s a lot more fun when you’ve got good competition. Hopefully our kids will be ready to play hard.”
Against Wade Hampton, quarterback Mason Schwerzler threw six touchdown passes. He was 11 of 17 for 281 yards.
Sam Denmark caught five passes for 126 yards and three scores, while Terrell Green made three catches for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Chase Pfaff made the other touchdown grab for the Hawks.
Running back Quan Wade rushed for 71 yards on seven carries and backup quarterback Walt Fagan added a touchdown run.
Andrew Conyers had an interception return for the Hanahan defense.
