Crime in the Creek

  • Tuesday, August 20, 2013

The following incidents were obtained from Goose Creek Police Department reports:
• Minutes before midnight on Aug. 11 an officer pulled over a vehicle driving with a cracked windshield in the area of Vango Drive, a new construction area. The officer noticed a range top microwave with a mounting bracket containing pieces of dry wall in the vehicle.
The driver was sweating profusely and shaking. The driver said he was in the area to visit a friend but he was not there. The deputy noted in the report that the area is uninhabited and there has been a rash of thefts in the construction zone.
An officer found a residence at 102 Santino Court with an open back door where it appeared the microwave had been removed from the wall above the stove. An investigator who had responded determined the microwave in the suspect’s vehicle matched the one missing from 102 Santino Court.
The subject was placed in handcuffs and charged with burglary. He was taken to the detention center and his vehicle was towed. The microwave was placed into evidence.
• On Aug. 9 a woman was showing a Madeline Drive house up for rent for someone while they were out of town when she discovered there was glass on a bedroom floor. She noticed a bedroom window was broken. The air conditioner in the backyard was also missing. The breaker box in the living room was open and the power had been cut off.
The complainant said she was at the residence three days earlier and everything was in order. The window damage is estimated at $150 and the air conditioner is valued at $4,000.
• At about 2 a.m. on Aug. 10 a man walked into a gas station on Redbank Road and attempted to use a $50 bill to purchase goods. The clerk marked the bill with a counterfeit detection pen, which indicated it was fake. The subject left the store without the counterfeit currency.
The clerk called police and turned in the phony greenback. The clerk told police surveillance video would be available at a later time.
