Scrimmages signal true beginning of season

  • Thursday, August 8, 2013

While last Friday has a buzz of its own because it sounds the horn for the beginning of football season, this Friday is the true start because teams can butt heads with one another.
Stratford, Goose Creek and Cane Bay will take on opponents in their first scrimmages of the season. Two of the three will be local.
The Gators host North Augusta Friday morning, while Cane Bay hosts Timberland. Stratford will hit the road to tangle with Aiken High School.
“We are looking forward to our scrimmages,” GCHS coach Chuck Reedy said. “We scrimmage North Augusta every year and that is a good indicator for us because they are one of the better programs in the state.”
Tuesday will mark the second scrimmage date. The Gators host Berkeley in the morning, while Cane Bay travels to James Island and Stratford to Conway.
