Dog bite sends boy to hospital

  • Thursday, July 25, 2013

A 7-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital after being bitten by a neighbor’s dog on July 7.
The boy was chased and bitten by a neighbor’s pit bull off Sarah Drive in the Boulder Bluff neighborhood around 2 p.m., according to a Goose Creek Police Department incident report.
A police officer responded and noticed a bite mark on the boy’s right leg that appeared fresh and was still bloody. The boy was transported to Trident Hospital for further treatment.
The complainant, the victim’s uncle, said he was inside the residence when he heard his nephew yelling. He went to the backyard and saw the pit bull on the property.
He grabbed an object from the ground and started swinging at the dog to scare it away. The complainant said his neighbors’ daughters came out of their residence and secured the canine.
The officer noted that the fence appeared to be missing a piece of wood. By the time the officer photographed the fence it appeared the missing wood on the fence had been replaced.
Two police officers and an animal control officer spoke with the owner of the canine and told her the dog must be quarantined with absolute supervision until DHEC could respond and further evaluate the dog.
The animal control officer cited the owner for lack of restraint on her canine.
