GCUMC Bible School under way
Vacation Bible School at Goose Creek United Methodist Church (142 Redbank Road) will be held Monday July 15 - Friday July 19, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.
The theme is “Everywhere Fun Fair Where God's World Comes Together.”
VBS will include light meals, storytelling, recreation, music, crafts, classes for ages 5 - 12, and Discovery.

Shagging concert Thursday
Berkeley County School District’s “Shagging Under the Stars,” an outdoor concert to benefit the district’s “Stuff the Bus Berkeley” campaign, will take place Thursday, July 18 at 6 p.m. at Old Santee Canal Park.
The band Custom 4+2 will perform. Tickets are $10, or bring a school supply to donate. Call (843) 899-8611.
County gospel concert features host of bands
A “Gaither Style” Sheppard’s Promotions Concert featuring a host of Gospel groups will take place at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 5:30) on July 27 at First Pentecostal Holiness Church (209 Nettles Street in Moncks Corner).
Bands and performers will include the Hearts Song Quartet, Lorraine Howard, Carla and Redemption, Mark Marsh, Karen Reese, New Direction, Carla Stone, Ronnie Allen, The Believers Quartet, Julie Mahoney and The Singing Sheppards.

Mental illness support group meets weekly
Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) Berkeley is a weekly support group for those who suffer from a mental illness and for those whose friend or loved one does. 
The support group meets every Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church (510 St. James Avenue) in the All Ministers Center (behind the church) in Room 5 from 7-8 p.m. 
Everyone is welcome to visit and support those with mental illnesses such as depression and bipolar disorder.

Free lunch served twice weekly
Free lunch is served every Wednesday and Friday to all comers from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. at the Goose Creek United Methodist Church fellowship hall.  
The menu of the Lord's Ladle Cafe includes homemade soups, sandwiches, and desserts. On Wednesdays, free clothing is also available.

Alzheimer’s support groups continue
The local Alzheimer’s Association has three caregiver support groups in the area held at different locations on the second Monday of each month.
Locations are Metro North Church (5:30-6:30 p.m.) at 109 Central Avenue in Goose Creek; Moncks Corner Medical Center (11 a.m – noon) on N. Live Oak Drive, and the Otranto Road library (1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.) in North Charleston.

Childbirth seminar July 31
Painless Childbirth, a free, in-person seminar and lecture, will be held Wednesday, July 31         from 7 to 9 p.m. at Berkeley Electric Co-op at 2 Spring Hall Drive in Goose Creek.

Chamber mixer Aug. 1
The next Berkeley Chamber of Commerce Business Mixer is set for 5:30 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1. The mixer will be held at Café Rotonda featuring The Magnolia Room at 2839 South Live Oak Drive in Moncks Corner. There is no cost for Chamber members; non-members cost is $10.

Ice cream social Aug. 11
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church is holding an ice cream social on Sunday, Aug. 11 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 510 St. James Avenue. 
Come by the church hall for ice cream cones or sundaes. Cones are $1 and sundaes are $2.

Campbell to address GOP Women
Sen. Paul Campbell, who represents South Carolina District 41, will be the speaker at the August meeting of the Berkeley County Republican Women on Monday, Aug. 5.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Berkeley Electric Cooperative on 2 Springhall Drive in Goose Creek.
NCHS reunion Oct. 19
The North Charleston High School Class of 1973 will hold its 40-year reunion from 6 to 11 p.m. on Oct. 19 at Hobcaw Yacht Club in Mount Pleasant.  The cost is $40 per person.

Weight loss, stress classes announced
“Weight Loss in 2013,” a free class, will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, July 29 at Berkeley Electric Cooperative at 2 Springhall Drive in Goose Creek.
The dynamic hypnotist of Lowcountry Hypnosis, will talk about why diets don’t work, dispel myths about hypnosis, and educate the audience about its value in the area of weight loss and overcoming procrastination.
A stress reduction class is set for July 30 from 7-9 p.m.
VFW Steak Night continues
VFW Post 10256/Ladies Auxiliary at 104 Stephanie Drive in Goose Creek holds Steak Night on the fourth Saturday of each month from 6-8 p.m.
Dinner includes one rib-eye steak or chicken with baked potato, salad and a vegetable, and Texas toast. Cost is $10 eat-in, and $11 carryout. Guests are welcome.

Tea Ladies meet first Wednesday
The Tea Ladies of the St. James Goose Creek Parish meet on the first Wednesday of each month. The group meets at 6:30 p.m. at the Berkeley Electric Co-op Building at 2 Springhall Drive in Goose Creek.

Goose Creek is seeking arts/craft vendors, food vendors and sponsors for its “2013 Fall Festival” on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Marguerite H. Brown Municipal Center.
