Rob Gantt/Gazette - Cody Smith leads Post 166 with a .406 batting average, and has a 4-1 record on the mound.

Another summer, another league championship.
Goose Creek Post 166 is the top team in League 1 for the third straight season. The team defeated Beaufort 7-0 on Saturday for the regular season crown.
It was the sixth league title for Goose Creek over the last eight seasons and first for Post 166 coach Dave Holt. Holt took over for Jimmy Huskey before this season.
Post 166 enters the postseason with a 17-7 overall mark and finished 13-4 against league opposition. They were set to begin the first round of the American Legion playoffs at home on Monday against Hartsville.
Against Beaufort, Smith had three hits to lead the way at the plate, while Taylor Morrison and Zack Wimmer drove in two runs apiece. Morrison's run production came on a two-run blast in the bottom of the eighth inning to put the finishing touches on the shutout.
Wimmer drove in the first run of the game with a single in the bottom of the first and added another RBI on a fielder's choice in the third inning as Post 166 built a 4-0 lead behind starter Tyler Rio.
Rio (3-2) struck out four batters and gave up two hits over his five innings. He also had an RBI single in the three-run third inning.
Smith tossed three innings of relief, followed by Austin Timm in the ninth inning to complete the shutout. Smith fanned five and surrendered three hits. Timm struck out one and allowed no hits.
Shane Dixon took the loss for Beaufort, giving up five runs while striking out seven batters over seven innings and scattering seven hits. He had thrown a one-hitter in a win over Post 166 earlier this season but gave up three in the first inning on Saturday.
Wimmer's single made it 1-0.
In the third, Wimmer's fielder's choice pushed across the first of three runs. Rio added an RBI single and Dalton Lash was plunked with the bases loaded to add the other run.
Following three scoreless innings, Post 166 got to Dixon again in the seventh. Smith tripled with two outs and then came home on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.
In the eighth, Mike White led off with a walk and Morrison followed with a blast over the left field fence.
On the season, Smith leads in hitting with a .406 batting average, followed by Timm (.333), Rio (.325), Chris Zurcher (.316) and Wimmer (.308).
From the mound, Smith is 4-1. Rio has three wins and Zach Lavery has two wins.
In the second round, Goose Creek would take on either Murrell's Inlet or Camden.
