Hundreds of parents and students joined principals and teachers for a celebration of student artwork on June 13.
The Summer STEP (Special Talent Enrichment Program) finale for elementary and middle school students was held at Goose Creek High School. Families were able to see the artwork of their students, visual arts performances and music.
The summer program lasted eight days. Students learned visual art, photography, creative writing, drama, hand bells, orchestra, jazz improvisation, the evolution of Broadway, steel drums, guitar, puppetry, African drumming, dance, chorus and arts in film.
Visitors like Renee Pringle-Ellison of Cross were with their families. She was there with her daughter, Lakesha Pringle and her two sons, Talbert Mustapher, 14, and Tyrell Mustapher, 12.
Talbert drew a portrait of Will Smith and Tyrell drew a portrait of Berkeley County School District Employee Relations Specialist Willis Sanders. Students were asked to draw someone who inspired them. Tyrell drew Sanders, who was also present at the STEP finale.
