Accident claims Goose Creek man

A 71-year-old Goose Creek man died Monday in a single-car traffic accident, Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury reported.
According to Salisbury, Baron Hancock of Goose Creek was traveling north on Highway 176 near Road 16 at 8:25 a.m. when his car ran off the right side of the roadway and he overcorrected and went off the left side, traveling some distance before hitting a tree. 
The fire department extricated Mr. Hancock from the vehicle; he was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. 
The accident was investigated by Salisbury and the South Carolina Highway Patrol. His death is ruled accidental with the cause as blunt force body trauma. No other vehicles were involved. Mr. Hancock was not wearing a seatbelt.
