When we realize we have made the right decision it brings immense satisfaction. Last year I was part of a search committee that was charged with selecting the new president of Columbia College. If you have never been on a search committee, I can assure you it is a most difficult task in which every participant is mindful that the decision will have a lasting impact.
Our dedicated search committee selected Elizabeth Dinndorf, J.D., as Columbia College’s 18th President. She was a nontraditional candidate as a business and finance executive, and a loyal alumna of a Minnesota women’s college with many years of leadership and service on its Board of Trustees. In other words, she was the right woman at the right time!
As a private Methodist-affiliated college, our goal is to educate and prepare our graduates to achieve personal and professional success in today’s world through our distinctive woman’s college and our co-educational evening and graduate programs.
President Dinndorf has already initiated new cutting-edge programs that make this even more attainable for students who understand the value of personalized attention and a uniquely supportive learning community. Check out our “You’re on Your Way” initiative or our new Momentum Scholarship program. These opportunities and others make Columbia College a true home for developing and promoting leadership skills in all our students, something we have been doing for more than 150 years.
I want South Carolinians and our 10,000-plus alumnae to know great things are happening at Columbia College under the leadership of President Dinndorf. If the coming years are anything like this first energizing year, we are truly “on our way” to an even brighter future. I’d also like to express my thanks to our new President and the dedicated faculty and staff for all they do to make this historic and wonderful institution the special place it is.
