Durham leaving Gators for Andrews

Scott Durham came to Goose Creek High School because he thought being at a successful Class AAAA program could help springboard him into the future.
This week it paid off.
Durham became the second Goose Creek football assistant in the last two months to take the top football job at a smaller school when he accepted an offer to take the reins at Andrews High School.
In May, outside linebackers coach Brad Bowles took over at St. John’s on Johns Island.
“The opportunity to coach with coach (Chuck) Reedy played a huge role in me coming here,” said Durham, who also vacates the school’s varsity baseball position. “This was professionally the best thing I’ve ever done.
“These nine years here were really good and I learned an awful lot.”
He coached the Gators’ quarterbacks during his nine-year tenure. All four varsity starters he coached were all-region selections and two of those made all-state. Goose Creek is 40-2 over its last 42 games.
Durham replaces Steve Blanchard at Andrews. Blanchard led the Yellow Jackets for four years. They were 2-9 last season after going 8-4 in 2011.
“They struggled a little bit last year,” Durham said. “It’s a rebuilding project for sure. We’ve got to get it going in the right direction.”
Durham said Reedy already laid the blueprint for building a successful program at GCHS and he plans to follow it at Andrews. He expects to employ the option offense at AHS.
“There’s no doubt we’re going to try to emulate what we did at Goose Creek,” he added. “We want to be a tough, physical team. We’ve got to develop the strength program first. That’s when we turned the corner at Goose Creek. There’s no magic potion. Its just time to go to work.”
Durham’s spot as baseball coach at GCHS will be filled by former Timberland baseball coach Chris Pond.
This past spring, the Gators finished 11-11 in baseball and won just one of eight region games. Goose Creek’s top baseball season under Durham was in 2008 when they finished 18-9.
Eight different Gators baseball players made an all-state team at least once under Durham.
