Goose Creek’s DeChant elected Grand Master

The 276th Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge Ancient Free Masons of South Carolina was held in Myrtle Beach in April, and David DeChant Sr., a Goose Creek resident, was elected and installed as the Most Worshipful Grand Master to lead the Craft during this Masonic Year. 
MW DeChant was born on June 2, 1945.  After graduating school in Cleveland, Ohio, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1962 and served on numerous combat ships until his retirement as a Senior Chief Boiler Technician in 1985.  He then attended Trident Tech in Industrial Management.
MW DeChant was initiated as an Entered Apprentice Mason at MacArthur Lodge No. 427 in February 1990, passed to a Fellow Craft in March 1990 and raised to a Master Mason in April 1990. He served the Worshipful Master  of MacArthur Lodge in 1994.
MW DeChant served the Grand Lodge of South Carolina as the Senior Grand Deacon in 1998; District Deputy Grand Master for the Second Masonic District in 1999-2000; Grand Lodge Personal Rep for the State of West Virginia; Past Eminent Commander for South Carolina Commandery; Past High Priest; Past Illustrious  Master of the Council of Orangeburg York Rite Bodies; Past Senior Grand Warden for the South Carolina Grand Commandery; Personal Grand Rep for the State of New Hampshire for the Grand Commandery of South Carolina; and Grand Rep for the State of Florida for the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons.
Masonic Awards include the Albert Gallatin Mackey Medal, York Rite Golden Honor Award, Knight Commander of the Temple, Mason of the Year 1999 for the First and Second Masonic District.
MW DeChant is married to Billie DeChant for 46 years; they have two children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
