Alpha Tau celebrates 50 years

Alpha Tau Chapter of Alpha Pi Chi National Sorority Inc., an organized chapter of professional women of Berkeley County, is preparing to join with other chapters in celebrating its 50th year as an organization. 
The celebration will be held in Chicago, Ill. from June 18 – 23.
Alpha Tau’s Chapter first advisor was Nurse/Midwife Maude Callem of Berkeley County, who became a historical figure when she received a special award and recognition for unselfish service by then Gov. Richard Riley.
Alpha Tau has members that serve in leadership positions on the State Council and Southeast Regional levels.
Presently, Alpha Tau Chapter has a membership of 18 who continues to attract women who will continue to “Light The Way for Learning and Living.” 
To promote the social and cultural wellbeing of children in our educational system, the chapter sponsors a scholarship program that began in 1995. It also participates in the Torch Lighter Pageant and the Talent-A-Rama Program that also began in 1995.
Members include Naomi Bacote, Jametrice Glisson, Viola Rogers, Edna H. Bryant, Ilesa Heyward, Mabel Session, Mary L. Carson, Audrey McCants, Lela Session, Ella Chisolm, JoeAnn Owens, Cassandra Shine, Clara Cooper, Beulah Reid, Carole Williams, Rose D. Gibbs, Jacqueline Richmond and Ruth Williams.
