Happy with GC Council

  • Thursday, May 30, 2013

Dear Editor:
I was very happy to read that the Goose Creek City Council has tabled the idea of imposing a tax on prepared foods in our city.
I’ve lived here 13 years and one of the few complaints I’ve heard residents make about our city is that it lacks good quality restaurants.  I know we have plenty of fast food places and several family restaurants, but nothing a cut above. Please do not take this as a knock on the restaurants we do have. They do a fine job fulfilling the need they have aimed at!
Goose Creek residents have to go to Summerville or into Charleston to find a dinner they could call “special.”  I know that there have been several reasons cited for restaurateurs not wanting to come to Goose Creek and I’m sure that those reasons are valid, but must we give them another reason NOT to come?
While other communities may have imposed such a tax, they don’t suffer from the lack of “quality” restaurants as we do. The mayor and city council have done a fine job of keeping Goose Creek debt free. If we need additional tax revenues, I’d love to see them find a different way to raise them.
