Thank you

Dear Editor:
Recently the South Carolina Lions Club of Santee invited members of the Association for the Blind to go on a fishing trip on Lake Marion.
President Larry Tracy asked local boat owners around the lake if they'd volunteer their time and boats to make this event possible. He also made arrangements with the Quality Inn Santee to accommodate all of us.
A bus from Charleston and one from Columbia headed to Santee around Noon, with nearly 90 of us on board. We arrived at Quality Inn where Manager Theresa Hickman and her staff of volunteers gave us all bright yellow T-shirts and helped us to our rooms. Shortly after, they fed us dinner followed by a ride to a local roadhouse with tables and benches set up out back, to listen to a band, dance if we were able and have some fish and chips.
Early the next morning, up for breakfast and off to the dock to board a pontoon boat and numerous smaller boats. Many of us were not physically able to board a boat and stayed in the clubhouse. Not all of us caught fish, most drowned worms … nevertheless, it was a very enjoyable time to say the least. After that, they bused us back where our families picked us up.
It's great to know that there are still some caring people out there. Once again, on behalf of all participants of this event, a heartfelt thank you.
