Shots fired, arrest made
Officers responded to Shannon Park Apartments on May 1 at about 10:45 p.m. after gunshots were reported.
When they arrived to the Central Avenue location they initially found no subjects, according to an incident report. A concerned citizen then reported a suspicious person by the basketball courts, near where the shots were apparently fired.
GCPD telecommunication gave officers a description of the subject who had possibly been involved in an earlier theft of a stolen handgun, according to the report.
As officers conducted a foot patrol near the rear of the complex several citizens called out, “He’s hiding behind the car,” and “He’s got the gun.”
Officers found the suspect and one other subject drinking beer behind an SUV near the basketball courts. One officer drew his firearm and the two subjects advised to show their hands then lay flat on the ground with their hands behind their backs.
An officer then noticed what looked like the butt end of a gun sticking out of the suspect’s right pants pocket. An officer took the gun from the suspect’s pocket and both men were placed in handcuffs.
“Let him go, he didn’t do it, I did it,” the suspect told officers.
The other subject was soon released as he did not have any involvement in the incident, according to the report.
The gun was a .38 caliber Rossi. The gun’s serial number matched that of a gun reported stolen earlier in the day.
The 33-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of firearm by a person convicted of a violent felony, according to the report.
