Goose Creek gymnastics team brings home multiple medals

The Goose Creek Gymnastics Aerials competed in USAG Xcel State Championships March 15 - 17 on the campus of Furman University. The girls and boys brought home 11 gold medals, 12 silver medals, and 19 bronze medals.
Two gymnasts were crowned all-around champion in their respective divisions: Olivia Davis in Xcel Bronze 9-10 year olds and Emily Poston in Xcel Bronze 6 year olds. Deacon Lavigne was selected to compete on the state team at Region 8 championships.
Other event and all-around awards are as follows:
Gold Medalists – 11Z: All Around - Olivia Davis and Emily Poston; Vault - Olivia Davis and Mikal Greene; Bars - Kelsey Richards; Beam - Henley Nicodin and Micah Kennedy; Floor - Vanessa Waters, Olivia Davis and Hunter Strohl; Rings - Hunter Strohl.
Silver Medalists – 12: All Around - Savannah Gren; Vault - Macy Gleaton, Henley Nicodin and Savannah Gren; Bars - Olivia Hasegawa; High Bar - Hunter Strohl; Beam - Nevaeh Quinn, Savannah Gren, Olivia Davis, Karina Greene and Jalyse Iler; Floor - Emily Poston.
Bronze Medalists – 19: All Around - Hunter Strohl, Micah Kennedy and Kelsey Richards; Vault - Ryan Singer, Emily Poston and Micah Kennedy; Bars - Emily Poston, Karina Greene, Charis Woodall and Savannah Gren; Beam - Emily Poston, Kelsey Richards, Vanessa Waters; Victoria Hogan and Olivia Hasegawa; Floor - Henley Nicodin, Nevaeh Quinn and Olivia Hasegawa; Pommel Horse - Hunter Strohl.
The Xcel Bronze Team finished 12th out of 30 teams and the Silver team was 11th out of 26. The average age of girls contributing scores to the team competition was 10 years old in the silver division and 7 years old in the bronze division. Most of the girls were significantly younger than girls from other teams so it is a huge achievement to place so high.
The Aerials competed in the 2013 South Carolina AAU District Championships April 12 - 14 where they brought home another 69 medals. The gymnasts earned 19 gold medals, 36 silver, and 14 bronze. This meet produced four all around champions for South Carolina: Kelsey Richards, Vanessa Waters, Ava Morgan, and Olivia Hasegawa.

Gold Medalists- 19: All Around- Kelsey Richards, Vanessa Waters, Ava Morgan and Olivia Hasegawa; Vault- Kelsey Richards, Emily Poston, Vanessa Waters, Hailey Helton(tie), Ava Morgan, Olivia Hasegawa, and Kara Owens(tie); Bars- Karina Greene(tie),Olivia Hasegawa, and Savannah Gren; Beam- Jalyse Iler, Vanessa Waters, Makaila Madison, and Savannah Gren; Floor - Emily Poston.
Silver Medalists - 33
All Around- Henley Nicodin, Alyssa Cousino, Hailey Helton, Makaila Madison, Savannah Gren, and Kara Owens; Vault- Alyssa Cousino, Makaila Madison, Karina Greene, and Macy Gleaton; Bars- Kelsey Richards, Henley Nicodin, Alyssa Cousino, Vanessa Waters, Olivia law and Victoria Hogan; Beam- Kelsey Richards, Nevaeh Quinn, Henley Nicodin, Hailey Helton, Ava Morgan, Karina Greene, Macy Gleaton, Victoria Hogan, Olivia law and Olivia Hasegawa; Floor- Henley Nicodin, Ryanne Cochran, Vanessa Waters, Ava Morgan, Olivia Hasegawa, Kara Owens, and Olivia law.
Bronze Medalists- 14
All Around- Nevaeh Quinn, Jalyse Iler, Karina Greene, Macy Gleaton, Victoria Hogan, and Olivia Law;  Vault- Henley Nicodin and Savannah Gren; Bars- Nevaeh Quinn and Kara Owens; Beam- Alyssa Cousino; Floor- Hailey Helton, Victoria Hogan, Micah Kennedy, and Taylor Morrissey.
The bronze team finished fourth and the silver team finished second.
The aerials team has eight gymnasts competing at USAG Region 8 championships in Clemson April 27 and 28, and many gymnasts participating in AAU Regional Championships May 24 and 25 at the North Charleston Convention Center.
The Goose Creek Aerials team practices at the Casey Community Center at 101 Old Moncks Corner Road. Goose Creek Gymnastics operates the city’s recreational gymnastics, cheer, and tumbling programs at the facility.
The Casey Center has been around for more than 30 years and serves more than 500 youths with services like gymnastics, dance, art, karate, cheer, tumbling, yoga, piano, voice, and violin lessons along with a host of other community centered classes for all ages.
