Goose Creek’s Deondre Daniels was the top local performer in the 21st annual Taco Bell Track and Field Classic this past weekend in Columbia.
Daniels, a sophomore sprinter for the Gators, was third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.15 and eighth in the 200-meter dash at 21.99.
“Deondre is having a great track season,” GCHS boys track and field coach Joe Hauff said. “He has gotten better each week and has the tendency to rise to the level of his competition. He works hard at practice and this will afford him an excellent opportunity to contend for the Region 7-AAAA and possible state title in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dash.
Annually, the event is held at Spring Valley High School and draws athletes from over 100 different schools in eight to 10 states.
Stratford’s top performer came on the girls side of the meet. Freshman Destiny McKnight was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.28.
For the Stratford boys, Chris German was eighth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.00 while sophomore T.J. Deveaux placed eighth in the discus with a throw of 148 feet.
