Police cadets to take part in April 13 bike-a-thon
Goose Creek Bike-A-Thon coordinator, Chief Harvey Becker of the Goose Creek Police Department, has announced that the Goose Creek Police Cadets of Explorer Post 400 will participate in the Saturday, April 13, “Making a Difference for St. Jude” Bike-A-Thon.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. at the lake and hiker-biker trail behind Goose Creek City Hall.
The coordinator of the police cadets, Lieutenant Shelly Ollic, advised Becker that the cadets would support this cause by riding, as well as sponsoring riders in the event.
Police cadets are determined to make this ride a community party.
“The general plan is to have a good time while helping a wonderful group of children and families counting on our support,” Becker said. “Our police cadets share the dream of the hospital’s founder, the late Danny Thomas, that ‘no child should have to die of cancer or other catastrophic diseases.’”
Since the hospital opened in 1962, 147 children and families from South Carolina have received treatment from St. Jude. Currently, 40 children from South Carolina are receiving treatment from St. Jude.
Riders who raise $35 will receive a St. Jude T-shirt. Those who raise $75 will receive a St. Jude sling bag. Riders who raise $150 or more receive a St. Jude camp stool. Prizes are cumulative.
“The real prize, though, is the pride everyone can take in giving children a chance to live a normal life,” Becker said.
Sponsor forms are available at the Goose Creek Police Department. For more information on riding or sponsoring a rider, call the Goose Creek Police Department at 863-5200, ext. 309.
