Goose Creek Police arrested a woman the morning of March 28 for filing a false report with police. According to a statement released by GCPD, Karsen Ruffin, 19, of Ladson, was put behind bars after police say she feloniously filed a false police report alleging she was the victim of an armed robbery in which her 11-moth-old child was hit twice with a pistol, according to an affidavit. The incident reportedly occurred when she was trying to sell an Apple iPad, which was indeed stolen during the incident. Ruffin’s acquaintance, a 21-year-old female, told GCPD that Ruffin lied in the initial report, and that contrary to the report her child had never been struck by another subject, that the other subject never had a firearm and the incident was merely a theft of the iPad, according to the affidavit. The 21-year-old went on to say that Ruffin lied to heighten police response, according to the affidavit. She also said Ruffin confessed to having stolen the iPad a few days prior from a client while she was working as an escort, according to the affidavit. It is unclear whether the other individuals reported as suspects in the original false report are expected to be charged.
