BCSO busts several illegal gambling machines

  • Thursday, March 28, 2013

After a two-week warning period the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division began a search for illegal gambling machines at locations in the county on Monday.
Deputies raided several places suspected of having the machines at their businesses and confiscated eight video poker machines that were declared illegal over a decade ago, according to a release from BCSO.
The crackdown is continuing throughout Berkeley County.
BCSO Sheriff Wayne DeWitt put these establishments on notice on March 5 that this action would be taking place.
“I’m giving a two-week notice as of today to anyone in Berkeley County who has these machines, whether stand-alone machines or networked systems, to remove them from your premises or face the risk of criminal and civil prosecution,” DeWitt said.
All but one of the businesses where illegal machines were found Monday were in the Goose Creek area, according to the BCSO.
They are: Crazy D’s on Redbank Road, Thirsty Turtle on College Park Road, Bruce’s Lounge on North Goose Creek Boulevard, Steel Horse Saloon on Old U.S.-52, the Whistle Stop on U.S.-52 and the Fast Break Lounge on North Main Street in Summerville.
Anyone with information about these types of machines in Berkeley County is encouraged to contact the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office at (843) 719-4412 or (843) 719-4424.
