The Tea Ladies of the St James Goose Creek Parish held the Fifth Annual Tea at the Creek on March 9.
The event was a great success. Ladies dressed in their finest for this elegant affair with beautifully decorated tables and delicious food made by the Tea Ladies. There were dozens of donated door prizes, raffles and silent auction items.
The Tea began with the Pledge of Allegiance led by First Lt Darien Woosley of the Stratford High School Junior ROTC. The cadets assisted in collecting tickets, handing out door prizes, serving and cleaning up.
The speaker this year was Dr. Amanda Mushal, an assistant professor of history at the Citadel. Her talk was on “The Architecture of Home and Shopping in Nineteenth Century Charleston” – shopping on King Street in the 1850s.
Proceeds from the Tea will help fund the restoration of the St James Goose Creek Church, the St James Goose Creek Chapel of Ease and the beautification program of Goose Creek.
Goose Creek Mayor Michael Heitzler was there autographing his new book, The Goose Creek Bridge, with the donations for the book going to the Tea Ladies.
Donors included Becky DeSanto and Liz Knudsen of the Special Effects Salon, Berkeley Electric Co-op, Bi-Lo, Brigadier General and Mrs. Ralph Parker, Dreamalot Books, Ft Sumter Tour and Spirit Line Cruises, Hopsewee Plantation Tea Room, Hyman’s Seafood, Jos. A Bank, Ladson Piggly Wiggly, La Hacienda, Los Arcos, Meeting Street Piggly Wiggly, MFS Commercial Real Estate, Olive Garden, Paradise Pools in Goose Creek, Plantation Florist, Quoizel Lighting, Ross Printing, Santee Cooper, Stephen Morrison, Stono Market, Ted Cozart, This Whole House, Time Well Spent, Tony Young and Ye Old Fashion Ice Cream Café.
