Baby hit by gun in armed robbery

Police are investigating an armed robbery in which an 11-month-old boy was hit in the head twice with a gun. That’s according to a statement and report released by the Goose Creek Police Department on Tuesday regarding the Monday evening incident in the Dollar General parking lot off North Goose Creek Boulevard. Two women, the 19-year-old mother (listed as a victim) of the child and a 21-year-old female (listed as a suspect), were meeting friends of the female suspect to sell an Apple iPad which belonged to the mother, according to the report. The mother later told officers she felt the female victim had set her up. The victim, female suspect and male suspect accused of hitting the baby met earlier that day at Sonic restaurant in Goose Creek. They then went to the Dollar General parking lot at which time the male and female suspects left together to meet the other male suspect at his residence in Boulder Bluff. The victim evidently followed. The victim said the Boulder Bluff suspect arrived in his vehicle, took the iPad and drove off with it. He called the female suspect and told her and the others to meet him at a gas station on Stephanie Drive. The victim remained in her vehicle while the female suspect and the Boulder Bluff suspect spoke outside at the gas station, according to the report. At this point the victim and female suspect rode back to the Dollar General parking lot and remained in the car while the armed male suspect got in an altercation with the victim. The female suspect said she heard the victim scream after the armed male suspect hit her child with a pistol. The female suspect said the armed suspect took $300 from a compartment on the driver’s side of the car and also took her wallet and ID, according to the report. The mother said the armed male suspect came up to the driver’s side of the car, took the iPad and demanded more money. She told the male suspect she had $10 and was not going to give it to him, according to the report. The male suspect moved to the rear driver’s side door where the baby was seated. He asked for more money a second time. “The baby sure won’t give it to you,” the mother said. That’s when the male suspect hit the child in the left side of his face, according to the report. The male suspect called the female suspect by her first name and said, “Tell her about me.” That’s when the male suspect laughed and hit the child a second time, the victim told police. At that time he walked away with the iPad, according to the report. The child’s mother then saw the female suspect hand something to the other male suspect, according to the report. Both females began to follow the male suspects as they fled to their car but lost sight of them. The victim began to dial 911 as the female suspect begged her not to. The mother called authorities explaining she saw blood on her child’s face and thought he was having a seizure, according to the report. Police and EMS arrived and transported the child to a local hospital. The report indicates the female suspect had several inconsistencies in the stories she told police. The iPad is valued at $350. The investigation continues.
