Barbara Ann Perry Grooms of Hanahan, wife of the late George W. Grooms Jr., died Friday, March 15, 2013. She was 68.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 20 at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road in North Charleston, from 7 until 9 p.m. A funeral service and interment will be held in Christ's Sanctified Holy Church and Churchyard on Saturday, March 23 at 2 p.m. in Perry, Georgia, under the direction of Watson-Hunt Funeral Home; visitation will be held Friday from 7-9 p.m.
Born Sept. 18, 1944 in Norfolk, Virginia, Barbara was the daughter of the late William Henry Perry and the late Gilberta Sellers Perry. She worked alongside her husband as owner and operator of their family business, Colony Lighting Appliance Center.
A steadfast and loyal member of Christ's Sanctified Holy Church, she enjoyed crafts and shared her artistic and creative talents through her volunteer work in floral design at her church, where she also taught Sunday School. Barbara was a loving wife and mother, and a wonderful step-mom and grandmother.
She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Mandy G. Smith and her husband Ty of Grayson, GA; her son, Jason Grooms and his wife Summer of Hanahan; her stepson, Dusty Grooms of Summerville; granddaughters Caroline Smith, Laurel Smith and Ava Smith, all of Grayson, GA; grandson Colton Grooms of Hanahan; her sister, Jacqueline Craig and her husband Kenny of Norfolk, VA; and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents and and her sister, Geraldine Croom.
