Charleston Southern University has been named to the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
“Communities are strengthened when we all come together, and we are encouraged that these institutions and their students have made service a priority,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.
Charleston Southern has been named to the honor roll for three consecutive years. In the past year, Charleston Southern students engaged in 74,467 hours of community service.
“This recognition is emblematic of the commitment the CSU faculty, staff and students collectively share for integrating faith in learning, leading AND serving,” said Dr. Rick Brewer, CSU vice president for student affairs and athletics. “And we serve from a place of transformation through Christ seeking to bless the lives of others extending Christ’s love and hope.”
The University is currently partnering with seven community organizations: Habitat for Humanity of Berkeley and Dorchester counties, Eagle Harbor Ranch, Summerville Miracle League, Crisis Ministries, Water Missions International, The A21 Campaign and Stall High School.
In addition to working with these organizations, students have served 52 other organizations, and students and employees have participated in mission trips abroad.
