Goose Creek Police have charged a man in connection with a December murder.
GCPD investigators obtained a warrant to charge David Shawn Chavis, 43, of Goose Creek, with murder for the shooting death of Darrell Allen.
Allen was found deceased in a vehicle found in the ditch adjacent to Lindy Creek Road during the early morning hours of Dec. 13, according to police.
The initial investigation revealed that Allen was the victim of multiple gunshot wounds and that Chavis had been in the vehicle with Allen at the time of Allen’s death.
According to the affidavit, police responded to 201 Lindy Creek Road at about 1 a.m. Dec. 13 and found Allen deceased in a 2013 Nissan Altima. The victim was found on the front passenger side floorboard with multiple gunshot wounds.
Chavis told police an altercation occurred inside the vehicle and Allen shot Chavis in the upper right arm, according to the affidavit. Chavis told police he used the same weapon he was shot with to fire several rounds at Allen in an alleged case of self defense, according to the affidavit.
Five shots were found inside Allen, one inside Chavis and two in the roof of the vehicle, according to the murder warrant.
Chavis was initially charged with possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent felony and has since been incarcerated at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center in Moncks Corner, according to a statement release by GCPD.
The subsequent investigation and examination of forensic evidence led investigators to seek a warrant charging Chavis with Allen’s murder. Chavis was served the murder warrant March 7 and will remain in the Hill-Finklea Detention Center.
Chavis was arrested Dec. 13 and incarcerated for the weapons charge.
The investigation continues.
