BCSO takes aim at unsafe school driving
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is taking aim at erratic driving – especially close to schools.
The BCSO is working closely with the Berkeley County School District in an effort to make the school zone in and around Sangaree Elementary, Intermediate and Middle schools as safe as possible, the BCSO announced last week.
The school district has added an additional crossing guard in this area and the BCSO is providing additional presence, at arrival and dismissal times, when units are available to assist.
According to the BCSO, when a deputy is visible, erratic driving and disorderly behavior is often absent.
The BCSO is encouraging all drivers in Berkeley County to take responsibility for their actions when they are behind the wheel, and use patience and good judgment.
The majority of the offenders causing the unsafe conditions are parents or caregivers of the students, the BCSO said.
Drivers who witness reckless driving or violations of the traffic laws at any school zone are encouraged to contact the BCSO by calling (843) 719-4412 or 4424 or you can submit online at www.berkeleycountysc.gov/dept/sheriff/ under the Forms Tab to complete a School Zone Traffic Violation Report.
