County honors Adopt-A-Highway volunteers

  • Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Every year, several volunteer groups work diligently to keep the roadsides in Berkeley County beautiful and litter free. They willingly devote their spare time and resources because for them, it is the responsible thing to do.
Last month (Feb. 9), a recognition banquet was held at Cypress Gardens for these volunteers and one group received top honors for their efforts.
“In Skipper’s Honor” was awarded the 2012 Group of the Year. Their group reported outstanding pickups for their area.
Each year, Berkeley County Water and Sanitation (BCWS) hosts this banquet to recognize the residents in our community who work throughout the year to keep the waste off our highways and in our landfill where it belongs.
In 2012, volunteers removed 45,700 pounds of litter from our roadsides and adopted 142 miles of highway.
